Ballinacree Parish mourned the loss of one of its most valued members Benny Briody. When St Brigid's football club was formed back in 1963, Benny was one of the young stars of the team. As a nineteen year old he played at centre field where he gave many outstanding performances for a number of years. Later he donned the number 3 jersey and continued playing into his forties. Not only did he play for St Brigid's but with the Meath over forty team. Benny was not only a player, he was also a referee.
Benny contributed so much to the running of the club over the years, taking on the position of Secretary at a young age and later the role of Chairman. He was to the fore when the club purchased their playing pitch and his down to earth advice was always appreciated. He was a Trustee and Honorary President of St Brigid's for the last number of years. Off the field, Benny was a very astute businessman. He started up his own bedding business in the 70s and expanded his enterprise to what is now known as Briody Holdings. Benny's sponsorship and support over the years was greatly appreciated by all in St Brigid's football club.
