Crosserlough got their Cavan senior football championship campaign off to a winning start by eclipsing Arva on a 2-22 to 2-21 scoreline at Kingspan Breffni.

Goals from substitute Dara McVeety and Emmett Boylan in the second-half were key as the 2024 went on to edge victory in this rescheduled first round tie.

Barry Donnelly’s goal saw Arva holding a 1-2 to 0-1 lead after six minutes and they’d net again through Thomas Partington before going on to take in a 2-10 to 0-12 advantage at half-time.

Kieran Smith put skipper McVeety through for Crosserlough’s first goal in the 40th minute, trimming their deficit to one, and they’d eventually level the tie through Emmett Boylan ahead of Harry Boylan giving them the lead on 45 minutes.

Emmett Boylan doubled his side’s advantage prior to a Jack Dobson free from beyond the arc squaring up matters, with goal-scorer Boylan and Kevin Bouchier trading scores as the game entered its closing 10 minutes.

Crosserlough, under the management of Finbar O’Reilly, who guided Arva to All-Ireland club JFC glory in 2024, landed a hammer blow in the 55th minute that saw Emmett Boylan finishing to the net, but their Longford border counterparts would respond brilliantly to it.

Back-to-back two-pointers from Bouchier and Conal Sheridan saw Arva regain the lead ahead of Emmett Boylan (free) and Jonathan McCabe trading points and McVeety’s two-pointer at the death settling the issue for Crosserlough.
