"It's a big ask to come back"

Former Donegal star Brendan Devenney says it’ll be “a big ask” for Michael Murphy to return to the county’s colours again next season.

The Tir Chonaill men exited this summer’s All-Ireland senior football championship race at the hands of Dublin on Sunday at Croke Park, where the capital men prevailed 1-26 to 1-22 (AET) to put themselves into the quarter-finals.

Commenting on Jim McGuinness’s side’s defeat, Devenney told RTE Sport that he felt they “completely overcooked the league and got it wrong this season”, and also speculated on Murphy’s future after the four-time All-Star came out of inter-county retirement last year.

"It’s a big ask to come back (for Murphy), particularly as it’s not like last year," Devenney stated.

"Jim took the job for three years with a possible fourth year, so we're not sure how that's all going to break down.

"It would be a massive thing for him to come back again because the levels have just gone up and up every year.

"It's been huge for him to be in the last two years and get his body back in that shape."
