There was a notable result in the Leinster MFC last night when Westmeath produced a late surge to defeat Dublin by 1-16 to 1-12 in Kinnegad.

Both teams won their opening group matches against Longford and Offaly respectively, and it looked as though Dublin would make it two on the bounce when they took the lead for the first time with 10 minutes remaining.

But a 53rd minute goal from Milltownpass midfielder Dean Kelly turned the tide back in the home side's favour after they had led by 0-11 to 0-4 at half-time. Kelly and full forward Aaron Connaire added late points to seal what was the Lake County's first Leinster MFC win over the Dubs since the 2000 provincial final.

U16 Cian Raftery top-scored again for the visitors with 1-8, almost equalling the 1-9 he hit in the first round against Offaly.

Meanwhile, an action-packed evening of U20 action awaits with games taking place in Munster (hurling) and Leinster, Ulster and Connacht (football).
