Moynalvey lost out to St. Patricks by three points in the final round group game of the Meath Cleaning Supplies Junior All County Football Championship Div. 6 played in Stamullen Tuesday evening 26th August.

With both teams already qualified to the semi-final final stage with two wins from their opening two games, this round three encounter result determined the placings in the group with the win for St. Patricks here seeing them go through as group winners.
It was Moynalvey who started the better of the two teams with 1-2 on the score board in the opening quarter hour, while the home side had to wait until the 23rd minute for their opening score. Those Moynalvey scores coming from a Luke Duffy point, followed by an Evan Drum goal following a good pass in from Duffy and the third score a point from midfielder Paul Conneely, 1-2 to 0-0 with seventeen minutes played.
Guilty of numerous wides in the opening half, St. Patricks eventually opened their account in 23rd minute with a point from midfielder Ciaran Sullivan.
Full back Charlie McCormack accounted for Moynalvey’s next score, finding himself winning a turnover in an advanced position to stride forward and fire over for the visitors third point, 1-3 to 0-1.
A brace of St. Pats scores, a free from Sam Geraghty and a point from Alex Hutcheson rounded off the first half scoring, meaning Moynalvey held a three point half time lead, 1-3 to 0-3, when referee Stephen Murphy blew the half time whistle.
St. Patricks made amends for their first half wastefulness in front of the posts to reel off the first four scores of the second half, the fourth of those the game’s only two pointer, a converted free by Niall Whearty from outside the arc to give St. Patricks the lead for the first time, 0-8 to 1-3.
The sides traded point for point over the next ten minutes or so, despite Moynalvey’s best efforts St. Patricks weren’t to be reeled in. Cillian Kelly pointed for the men in maroon, with St. Patricks replying two minutes later. Moynalvey’s Aaron Sweeney converted a close range free, but again Pats replied sixty seconds later. Moynalvey substitute Paul Corcoran pointed in the 48th minute, with St. Patricks responding again, leaving it 0-11 to 1-6 with 51 minutes played.
Moynalvey’s best chance of regaining the lead came when Luke O’Halloran danced through a couple of tackles to advance on goal, however St. Pats goalkeeper Darragh Sullivan was quick off his line to deny O’Halloran with a smart save in the 53rd minute.
A further pair of Niall Whearty frees extended the home side’s advantage to four, 0-13 to 1-6, with Moynalvey’s Luke O’Halloran pointing three minutes from time, meaning St. Patricks won out by a three point margin to see them top group A, with Moynalvey finishing second meaning both sides advance to the semi-finals.
