Slane 1-12 Nobber 0-10

Slane got their Junior Football Championship campaign off to a winning start with this five point victor over Nobber at a splendid Castletown last night. Only two points separated the teams entering the last six minutes.

The 2023 Junior B champions got a brilliant start with a fine solo goal from midfielder Francis Marry. Nobber replied with a brace from full forward Dale Larkin and one from Seamus Fagan to leave it 1-1 to 0-3 at the end of the first quarter. Slane dominated the remainder of the half and with fine efforts from Jim Marry, the impressive Ethan Harding (2), Conor Forde and Matthew Tully, Martin Barrett’s men went in at the break 1-6 to 0-4 in front.

The North Meath outfit took control of the opening ten minutes of the second half. Conor Owens kick started their comeback with an early point. Karl Cassidy raised a white flag before Larkin kicked a two pointer from a free to leave the minimum between the teams. Slane didn’t panic. Forde steadied the ship with his second and corner forward Harding added to his tally with a brace. But again Nobber came back. Casserly and Larkin made it a two point game. Both sides had chances as the game entered the closing stages but Slane finished with three points from Niall Carolan, Harding and Tully to seal the win.

Next up for Slane is Syddan at the same venue while Nobber take on St. Vincents in Walterstown.

Slane scorers: Ethan Harding 0-5, Francis marry 1-0, Matthew Tully and Conor Forde 0-2 each, Jim Marry, Tadgh Martyn and Niall Carolan 0-1 each.

Nobber scorers: Dale Larkin 0-6, Karl Casserly 0-2, Conor Owens, Seamus Fagan 0-1 each
