St. Michaels 5-18, Ballivor 3-02
It was all too easy for visitors St. Michaels as they comfortably defeated the hosts Ballivor in atrociously wet conditions on Monday evening and in doing so picked up the U-15 division 5 cup.
Cora Rogan opened the scoring with a point in the opening minute, Leana Coyne, Lauren Reilly and Chloe Callaghan followed up with minors before the Ballivor girls opened their account with a well struck goal on six minutes. Less than a minute after the home sides opener the visitors stretched their lead through minors from Callaghan (3) and one apiece from Reilly and Eibhlin Smith, Ballivor added their opening point on 21 minutes before Callahan and Reilly added St. Michaels last two minors of the half. The home side added their second major on the stroke of half time to trail by 2-01 to 0-11 when referee Emma Kate Ball blew the short whistle.
The winners firmly got on the winning path two minutes into the new half as Callaghan nipped in for her and her sides opening major and from there to the conclusion of the game St. Michaels held the upper hand. In very poor playing conditions they piled on the pressure and the points and goals flowed, anchored superbly by five star displays from the likes of 'keeper Jenna Hart, full back Mia Jackson, the entire St. Michaels defence were in no mood to allow their opponents to creep their way back into the game. The St Michaels mid-field and forward division were exceptional throughout with top scorer Chloe Callaghan (3-7) capping a fine performance with two further majors. The winners emptied their bench as the third quarter gathered pace but their vice-like hold on the game continued unabated, midfielder Zoe O'Rourke plundered another major while substitute Aoife Gargan broke through for a fine solo goal. Ballivor to their credit did have their moments but could only add 1-1 to their first half tally.
