St. Ultan’s Cortown Gaels were impressive winners of the Meath Minor Football Tournament Group B final played in perfect conditions at Syddan.

When these two sides met in the group stages a month ago, a high scoring 3-15 apiece draw was the result in Skryne.

The Bohermeen parish side got a good start with points from Cian Loughran and Kian Fitzsimons. Skryne hit back and were 1-2 to 0-3 in front after ten minutes, their goal coming from full forward Harris Moffat. St. Ultan’s Cortown Gaels dominated the next quarter. The impressive Conn Brennan and Loughran pointed before Matthew Martin got in for two well taken goals. Skryne finished the half with a two pointer from DJ O’Reilly. The teams went to the half time huddle with St. Ultan’s Cortown Gael 2-7 to 1-5 in front.

Dara Loughran had replaced his injured brother Cian just before the interval and the talented forward finished the second half with six points, three of them coming in the opening ten minutes as the boys in White and Green opened up a nine point lead. O’Reilly gave Skryne some hope with his side’s second goal but from there on Ultan’s Cortown took over. Brennan landed a two pointer, Loughran added another three while Martin completed his hat trick as the winners pulled away.
