Dunderry 4-18 Saints 3-10
Dunderry became the first winners of a minor competition in the county this year with this victory over a very talented Saints (St. Colmcilles and St. Pats) side played in perfect conditions at Navan O’Mahony’s Trim Road. PHOTOS
Peter Hutcheson raised the first white flag of the game for the Saints but by the end of the first quarter Dunderry had control of the game. Two quick fire goals from full forward Ciaran O’Brien along with some excellent points from Cormac Conaty, Charlie Fagan and Charlie McHugh had the boys in black 2-6 to 0-2 in front. Oisin Moran gave the seaside team a lifeline with a well taken goal and this ignited their revival. Hutcheson raised another three white flags and Moran got a second goal to leave two points in it at the break, Dunderry 2-7 Saints 2-5.
Dunderry extended their lead in the opening minute of the second half with a Sean Fulham goal but once again the Saints responded. Moran completed his hat trick and points from Declan Lenehan, Jack O’Byrne and Ciaran Grant had them ahead at the end of the third quarter. Gordon Rennick’s charges were not to be denied and they finished the game with a flourish. Marc Darcy got their fourth goal with ten minutes remaining and along with eight unanswered points and including a penalty save from full back Tom Howley they ran out comfortable winners in the end.
After the game Darren Hickey (Minor Board), who praised both sides for an excellent game, presented the MHT Group D Cup to Dunderry captain Matthew Moran.
