Drumbaragh 4-19 Carnaross 2-22

Carnaross and Drumbaragh served up a thrilling encounter in sunny Drumbaragh on Sunday morning in Division 4 of the League.

Drumbaragh had the elements in the first half and used it to their full advantage in the first quarter when they led by 1-9 to 0-2. Carnaross responded well to the early onslaught registering 6 of the next 7 scores, all coming from placed balls from Paddy McDermott. Darragh O’Reilly and Paddy Morris added a point as Drumbaragh re-established control with a further 1-2 before referee, Ciarán Flynn, blew for half-time. At half time, the scoreboard read Drumbaragh 2-11 to Carnaross’ 0-9. Drumbaragh struggled to deal with the direct running of the Carnaross forwards but the scoring from distance was exemplary.

The second half began with a superb solo effort from Shane Yore who saw his goal bound effort deflected over the bar by the Drums goalkeeper. Paddy McDermott was being tightly marked by Harry O’Higgins but continually kept the scoreboard ticking over with some superb long range frees that he himself created on numerous occasions. Luke Gillic was phenomenal in midfield winning mark after mark that laid a great platform to attack from. Drumbaragh kept in front but were denied on three separate occasions by Shane McNiffe in goals. The Drums hit their own purple patch and registered a quick-fire 1-3 to give them an 11 point lead with 15 minutes remaining. The Ross upped the ante and began to wrestle control of possession with John Reilly, Adam Kerins,Pierce Fleming and Oisín Yore picking up breaks around the middle. Shane O’Reilly was unceremoniously dragged to the ground when through on goal leading to a penalty converted by McDermott. With both teams reduced to 14 for drag down tackles, the game became ever more open. Paddy Farnan enjoyed a great tussle with the lively Hughue Corcoran. Then William Carry registered Drumbaragh’s 4th goal to establish an 8 point lead with 5 minutes to go but the Hoops kept going. A two pointer from McDermott followed by a goal by Paddy Morris left a goal in it. Scores were traded between the North Meath side before another 2 pointer from McDermott and a single free left one point between the sides. The final score of the clash came from Liam Ward who guaranteed the win for the Drums with a 2 pointed free.

An open, honest and free-flowing encounter that gave the crowd their money’s worth but unfortunately for Carnaross, they came away with nothing to show for their efforts.
