Meath 0-19 Kildare 1-8

Meath booked their place in the Leinster Under 20 Football Championship final with this convincing win over Kildare played in woeful conditions at Ashbourne. The home side kicked 6 two pointers on their way to victory.

The visitors got a great start with Jay O’Brien goal and were 1-2 to the good after ten minutes.

Jamie Murphy got the home side up and running with a brilliant two pointer, John Harkin followed suit soon after and by the 18th minute Ben Corkery had the game level 1-2 to 0-5. Meath hit the front with scores from Rian Stafford and Murphy. Stafford was finding his range and before the close of the half the Kilmainhamwood star registered three two pointers to give Cathal O’Bric’s men a 0-13 to 1-5 interval lead.

As conditions deteriorated Meath controlled the second half. Between the 7th and 20th minute they opened up a 0-17 to 1-6 lead with fine efforts from Murphy (2), Stafford and Liam Jennings. Murphy sealed a brilliant team performance with another two pointer before referee Anthony Nolan blew the full time whistle.

The Royals take on Louth in a repeat of last years final next Wednesday at Parnell Park.
