Nobber 2 – 10 (16) Carnaross 1 – 18 (21)
Nobber made the trip on Sunday morning last across North Meath to face Carnaross in Round 4 of their league campaign. A sunny morning with the picturesque Tower of Lloyd in the background of the new Carnaross pitch with ideal conditions for players, management, and spectators attending the game.
The black and ambers shared the spoils with Carnaross in the opening quarter, with corner forward Dale Larkin registering the first two points for Nobber. Full-back Barry Cassidy enjoyed plenty of possession and pushed the Nobber men forward, resulting in some impressive scores by full forward Karl Casserly and centre back Niall Farrell. The Nobber defence was kept busy in the first half, but Derek Walsh’s charges went into the break with a three-point lead thanks to further scores from Lorcan McEntee, Larkin, and an impressive goal taken by corner forward Jamie Duffy, leaving the Carnaross keeper with no chance on the stroke of half-time.
Half-time score – Nobber 1 – 6 (9) Carnaross 1 – 3 (6)
The first 10 minutes of the second half proved a close affair with little separating the sides. The black and ambers registered some more points taken well by the experienced wingback Richie Shields and the youthful Gustas Pocevicius. The Carnaross men managed to take a grip on the game, especially around the middle third, and racked up a series of scores to build up a decent lead. Nobber were awarded a penalty halfway through the second half and were behind by four points at the time. Unfortunately, from a Nobber perspective, the Carnaross keeper made an impressive save and went on to increase their lead on the scoreboard. The Deesiders continued to make a game of it, however, Carnaross registered a number of two-pointers, which proved significant to increase their lead. Nobber got further scores from Larkin, Conor Owens, and in nicely taken goal into the bottom corner by Paul Meade in the dying minutes.
Next up for Nobber is a home fixture against St Brigid’s on Sunday, April 27 at 11 AM.
