St. Michaels 1-17, Curraha 2-16
St. Michaels suffered a major setback at home on Saturday afternoon last when losing to visitors Curraha in ideal conditions in Carlanstown.
The home side were caught napping when 1-17 to 2-8 up with four minutes of normal time remaining but as they sat back to admire their good work Curraha played to referee Patrick Clarke's whistle and fired over four two pointers to snatch victory and the two valuable points on offer.
Although missing a few regulars it was evident from an early stage that St. Michaels were fired up for the occasion with top marksman Gearóid O'Malley in fine form landing five minors (1f) in the opening half while Declan Reilly (0-2), Matt Moriarty, Conor Bates and Cian McFadden also added a point apiece to give their side a five point advantage at the interval 0-10 to 0-05 and they were good value for their lead as they had brought pace and intensity to their game that the visitors struggled to cope with.
O'Malley opened the scoring in the opening minute of the new half, Curraha replied immediately and although playing with the strong wind they didn't raise another flag until the 46th minute. The St. Michaels lads had stretched their lead to eight points at this stage however Curraha bagged a fortunate goal and had by no means shot their bolt, they added a further 1-1 to the scoreboard and were back in the game. Substitute Aaron O'Connell bagged 1-1 immediately after his introduction for St. Michaels but that ended the scoring for the home side as Curraha exploited the open space and some indiscipline given to them by their opponents and fired over four two pointers in nearly as many minutes to secure victory.
