The sunny weather provided a perfect backdrop for what became a fiercely contested encounter full of missed chances and high tension. Walterstown who availing of a very strong wind took control in the opening half and led by 1-10 to 0-6 at the short whistle, their goal coming from the penalty spot midway through the half.

Walterstown stretched their lead to eight points 30 seconds into the new half, however Alicia Curtis, Sinead McCormack and Seona Lynch settled the St. Michaels ladies with some great efforts from play. Walterstown it has to be said were unfortunate to see some of their efforts on goal come off the cross-bar and uprights and Laura Halpin pulled off some fine saves between the St. Michaels posts. The visitors registered their only other point of the half on 48 minutes. St. Michaels were now pushing hard and posted five minors in a row with Lynch & McCormack on target, then McCormack scored a superb point from play after substitute Lauren Reilly's pass. The same player made it a one point game in the first minute of added time but the referee's long whistle blew shortly after the kick-out.
