Oldcastle's Pearse Sheridan

Oldcastle 0-13, Duleek/Bellewstown 1-10

A clear but freezing night in Millbrook for this evening’s match, and it was Stephen Tierney who took the first point for Oldcastle, followed by another super score from Pearse Sheridan, high and straight in the cold night air. It was Pearse again with the next, before the opposition finally got a point. They followed that up with a goal with the next kick of the ball however, to go ahead, and then added on a two-pointer and a point to leave our lads trailing. A Stephen Tierney free was followed by one from CJ, and another from Pearse helped to narrow the gap, but Duleek Bellewstown took three unanswered just before the break to leave it Oldcastle 0-06, D/B 1-07 at halftime.

A Ryan Kevin free was fed on to Oran O’Reilly, to Pearse, to Brian Hetherton, back to Pearse, to Paddy Rahill, on to Oran Mulvanny who was catching impossible balls and taking horrendous hits, on again to Pearse, to Brian, to Rory Crawley, back to Brian who was fouled, and Pearse converted. The Oldcastle defence were working hard throughout, Conor McHugh steady in goals, some great football and clearances from Cillian Connell and Dylan Garrigan, Tom Lynch having a super match and never leaving his man, and Louis Colleran up and down the field. Another free from CJ but another point for the opposition, before both sides sent balls wide. It was a lovely Lee Healy ball in to Ben Grey, on via the speedy Jason Scully, and in to Oran Mulvanny who sailed her over for the next score. Duleek Bellewstown added on a point, Pearse responded.

Supersub Cormac Fagan came on for 30 seconds to scare the opposition before appearing for real; Fagan for Kevin, Ryan having had a great match. Time was ticking away and the lads were three adrift when CJ took one at a tight angle but got her between the posts. 60 minutes on the clock now, Oldcastle trail by two, and in the melee of play D/B got the ball but off the ground, ball to Oldcastle but there must have been mouthing because it was brought upfield; into the two-pointer arc. Up stepped Pearse Sheridan, no hesitation, he sailed her between the posts just before the final whistle blew, leaving the match a draw, but a draw was as good as a win for Oldcastle tonight and sees the lads progress to the Corn na Boinne Semi-Finals.
