HS Meath Awards: JFC Player of the Year

December 20, 2024

Dunsany's Eoin Harkin

Emotions ran high for Dunsany players and supporters after their narrow win over St. Vincents in the Junior Football Championship final and a nine final losing streak since 1972 came to an end. A collective effort finally got Kevin Cahill’s men over the line but throughout the campaign they had some brilliant displays from Niall Flynn, Alex Smyth, Harry and James Cahill, Mark Horan, Pauric Burke and Jack Cottrell.

St. Vincent were unlucky in 2024 losing three finals. Niall Tallon, Mark Crawley, Conor Harford, Gary Tuite, Michael McIvor, Conor O’Brien and Paddy McGill turned in some fine performances during their championship campaign.

Braydon Colfer, Kyle Tallon, Francis Marry and Podge McGowan were the mainstays of Slane’s run to the last four.

Eoin Griffin, Jack Doherty, the O Donnchadha’s, Diarmaid and Eamon Og, Eoin Kelleher, Paul Tuite, Cian Swaine and Ben Corkery led the line as Clann na nGael reached the semi final.

Our Junior Football Championship Player of the Year, one of the easiest decisions we had to make in a while, is Eoin Harkin. Outstanding at winning primary possession and his ability to kick scores from frees and play off left or right proved crucial as Dunsany ended years of heartache. The former county man, we are sure that will change, scored all of his team's points (5) in the county final and his display in the second half against St. Vincents was outstanding.

Well done Eoin.
