Kilskyre/Moylagh's Darren O'Higgins heads for the Gaeil Colmcille goal during the Intermediate B HC final at Lomans Park Trim

Kilskyre/Moylagh 1-15 Gaeil Colmcille 1-10

A typical late autumn Irish day from a weather perspective with all four seasons packed into the two hours (cold, sun, wind and rain).

With the conditions as they were, it was going to be a game of two halves Gaeil Colmcille won the toss and rightly choose to play with the wind.

This was a Darby Final that was never going to be a classic as both teams got stuck in closing down the space and happy to let each other shoot from the wings with the difficult conditions.

Darren O’Higgins excellently executed goal for Kilskyre Moylagh just before half time was probably the decisive moment in the match that provided a four-point cushion going into the break that was badly needed. You expected Kilskyre Moylagh to kick on in the second half with that cushion, but they couldn’t, Gaeil Colmcille continued to pressurise, forcing mistakes and punishing on the scoreboard to keep them in the game.

Kilskyre Moylagh, maintained the lead throughout this match and in fairness never looked like handing it over but when its your nearest rivals and not a great track record against the head you need to dig in to get over the line and that they did with noticeable performances from Charlie Usher, Sean Geraghty, Daire Shine, Willie McGrath and James Cooke.

Both clubs should take great heart as they join forces for the U21 Hurling Championship Loughcrew Geals Gaeil Colmcille. The number of young players on display from both sides and their collective work rates is something that is surely the basic ingredients for any good team that wants to progress.

Kilskyre/Moylagh: Charlie Usher, Jack Connell, Podge Muldoon, Junior O’Reilly, Benji Smith, Seán Geraghty, Jimmy Boyle, Eoin Briody, James Cooke 0-1, Lorcan Maguire, Daire Shine 0-5, Fergal Flynn, Willie McGrath 0-8, Killian McCaffrey, Darren O’Higgins (1-1)

Subs: John Harvey replaced O’Reilly at half time, Dereck Muldoon, Paul Hennessy, Sean Tunney, Paddy Briody, Kit Og Lynch, James McDonnell, Connor Rennicks, Gavin Corrigan, Oisin McDermott
