Ladies JFC final: Dominant 'Mill' breeze to title

Boardsmill's Sarah Bagnall retains possession despite pressure from Trim's Sarah Caulfield, Cliodhna Vaughan and Sinead Murphy during the Meath JFC final at Paddy O'Brien Park.

Boardsmill proved too strong for Trim in this Meath LGFA Junior Football Championship final played in cold conditions under lights at Paddy O’Brien Park.

From the word go the winners were always in control. Three pointed frees from Laura Dempsey and one from corner forward Paula Dorian had them 0-4 to 0-0 up at the end of the opening quarter. 

Emma Hanifan put Trim on the scoreboard before Boardsmill went on another scoring burst. A brace from Dempsey either side of a Maeve Murray goal along with points from Claudia Durkan and Murray gave the team in Blue and White a 1-8 to 0-1 interval lead.

The game was as good as over in the early stages of the second half. Quick fire goals from Rachel Troy and Dorian gave Boardsmill a 17 point lead inside the opening five minutes. As the game entered the closing stages Trim got their goal when a high was deflected into her the Boardsmill net. Meg Ni Scolai closed out the scoring for the town side but it was Boardsmill’s day by a comfortable margin.

After the game Meath Chairperson Colm McManus presented the Player of the Match Award to Laura Dempsey and the Junior Football Championship cup to Boardsmill captain Sarah Bagnall.
