September 30, 2024

Keelan Taylor keeps the sliothar in play for Drumree as Donaghmore Ashbourne's Colm O Mealoid and Rhys Thomas close in during the Meath IHC semi final at Pairc Tailteann

Drumree 1-17 Donaghmore/Ashbourne 2-2

When these two sides met in the last group game Drumree had eleven points to spare at the beginning of the month at Pairc Tailteann. The same margin separated the teams in yesterday Intermediate Hurling Championship semi final played at a wet and windy Pairc Tailteann.

Like in their first meeting Drumree totally dominated. Playing against the elements Frank Bawles men were 1-5 to 0-0 up inside ten minutes. Keelan Taylor, Sean Kilcoyne and Josh Wall pointed before Kilcoyne troubled the Ashbourne net. David Reilly and Wall completed the early scoring spree before Donaghmore Ashbourne keeper Ben Mather rifled a penalty, after a foul on Michael O’Sullivan, to the Drumree net.

Taylor and Niall Gavin responded with points before the men in Red and White were rocked again. O’Sullivan added a point from a free before racing through for their second goal. Despite their dominance Drumree only took a 1-8 to 2-1 lead to the dressing room.

Donaghmore Ashbourne failed to get going in the second half and their only reward was a point from Shaun Byrne after 49 minutes. Drumree on the other hand were well on top. Six unanswered points from Taylor, Reilly (3), Karl Rogers and Wall arrived before Ashbourne’s lone score. Reilly, Wall and Rogers completed their tally to set up a final day meeting with Navan O’Mahonys in two weeks time.

Drumree scorers: David Reilly 0-5, Sean Kilcoyne 1-2, Josh Wall 0-4, Keenan Taylor 0-3, Karl Rogers 0-2, Niall Gavin 0-1
