Stefan Campbell struck a goal in each half as Clan na Gael progressed to the semi-finals of the Armagh senior football championship at Killeavy’s expense last night.
The 2-12 to 2-11 victory at the Box-It Athletic Grounds saw last year’s runners up joining Clann Eireann in the last four after the latter’s 2-12 to 1-12 victory over Armagh Harps.
Clan na Gael’s rocky start saw them falling 1-1 to 0-0 behind after the opening six minutes, with Gareth Murphy providing the goal for Killeavy.
However, the Lurgan outfit settled in well after that and got their first goal via county forward Campbell to move towards a 2-4 to 1-5 half-time lead.
The second-half would see him netting again by tucking in the rebound of a Callum O’Neill effort and two points from the latter in the closing stages helped ensure the win, as Killeavy battled back with points from Miceal McNamee and Shea Magill (2 45s) but finished one short in the end.
Today’s other senior quarter-finals clashes in the Orchard County see Madden up against Mullaghbawn (4pm) before holders Crossmaglen face Cullyhanna (6pm).
