Rian Stafford surveys his options for Kilmainhamwood during the Junior B FC quarter final at Grangegodden

Kilmainhamwood 2-12 Boardsmill 1-11

On Saturday afternoon Kilmainhamwood made the short trip to Grangegodden to play Boardsmill in the Junior B quarter final. Kilmainhamwood were slower out of the blocks with Boardsmill registering a brace of quick scores. Kilmainhamwood opened their account through a brace of points from the trusty boot of Rian Stafford. Boardsmill kept the pressure on Kilmainhamwood and made it difficult by packing the whole team behind the ball. Kilmainhamwood kept going hard to find scores and did so via Eóin Finnegan and a crucial goal from a meandering run from Darragh Smith through the Boardsmill defence to find the back of the net. Boardsmill were efficient themselves in attack with a well taken goal and numerous points. Noah Madden put in a huge shift to stop multiple Boardsmill attacks and made some crucial blocks. Eoin Rooney also made space for himself and swung over a brilliant point from distance. Kilmainhamwood rounded out the half with a point from Rian Stafford.

Half Time Kilmainhamwood 1-5 Boardsmill 1-6

Kilmainhamwood came out of the trap far quicker in the second half registering 1-5 to no score with a well taken goal and 2 points from Rian Stafford to put Boardsmill under pressure. Eoin Rooney added a other point and a well taken free from Stephen Kiernan on the left-hand touchline put breathing space between the 2 teams. Boardsmill piled on the pressure at this stage to get something from the game and had Kilmainhamwood backs to the wall for periods of the half with Kilmainhamwood forcing some turnovers to minimise damage to the score line. Boardsmill did register 2 points from play and a free to close the gap but that was as far as they got as Kilmainhamwood negotiated a victory to see us through to a semi final in 2 week's time.
