New Tipperary football manager Philly Ryan favours playing Allianz League games outside FBD Semple Stadium.

The former goalkeeper believes Tipp would be harder to beat if they brought their home League games back to venues in football heartlands such as Clonmel or Ardfinnan.

"When you see other teams coming out... For instance, Sligo came out on the (Thurles) pitch last year and there was a massive roar," Ryan told the Tipperary GAA website.

"You're coming into either the best or the second best pitch in Ireland and I think it's giving the opposition more of a bounce than it gives the Tipperary team. It's something we'll look at is moving a few of the League and Munster Leagues down around rural venues to gain a bit of support out of the local people and try to build up the pride in Tipperary football.

"I won't be saying we won't be using Thurles, but definitely for the Munster League and National League, we'll have to bringing teams into a bit of a cauldron where it's a little nastier than being pleasant to play in."
