Moynalty's Sean McMahon

Ballivor 5-04 Moynalty 2-17

Moynalty began their LMFM Minor Division 3 Championship campaign on Monday evening with a very tricky opening round fixture away to Ballivor.

The homesides strategy of going for goal was evident from the start of the game, and they got their reward finding the green flag for the first time after only 10 minutes. Ballivor could easily have found a second soon after, but ‘keeper Eanna Bennett forced the ball over the bar with a strong save. Two further goals for Ballivor on 25 and 30 minutes left Moynalty trailing 3-03 to 0-04 with half time looming. The lads dug deep and settled themselves immediately after the goal, kicking 4 unanswered points in injury time of the first half. Two from Sean Mac Mahon, one from Shane Bennett and one from Arron Lynch to leave the half time score Ballivor 3-03 Moynalty 0-08.

Both sides traded goals early on in the second half, as Shane Bennett cancelled out Ballivors quick goal. Moynalty cut the lead down to just two points after points from Sean Mac Mahon and Cathal Donoghue, however it was Ballivor who scored their fifth goal of the day 10 minutes into the second half to put 5 points between the sides again.

The final quarter of the match saw Moynalty score 1-06 and not concede at all. It took a huge team performance from the lads to get the result over the line, with everyone contributing massively to turn the result in their favour. Defensively Odhran McMahon and Mikey Smyth were very impressive. The midfield pairing of David Daly and Joe McMahon worked tirelessly to the very end. The game changing moment came in the 27th minute of the second half, as Cathal Donoghue blasted the ball into the Ballivor net to put Moynalty ahead for the first time since the 10th minute of the game. Full Time Score Ballivor 5-04 Moynalty 2-17
