Kerry football boss Jack O’Connor is on the lookout for a new selector after Mike Quirke departed the management set-up.

The former midfield colossus managed Laois during the Covid-disrupted seasons of 2020 and ’21 before returning to the Kingdom and joining O’Connor’s backroom team. Kerry won the All-Ireland SFC title in Quirke’s first season as a selector before losing the final and semi-final (after extra-time) to Dublin and Armagh respectively in ’23 and ’24.

"I’ve decided to step away from my role with the Kerry senior set-up after three largely enjoyable years," Quirke announced on X.

"Very grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such a storied and passionate football community. While I’ll no longer be on the sidelines, I remain an ardent supporter of Kerry football, and look forward to cheering on the team in the seasons ahead."

Current U20 manager Tomás Ó Sé, 2014 All-Ireland winning manager Eamon Fitzmaurice and Colm ‘Gooch’ Cooper are among the names being touted as possible replacements.
