A replay has been ordered for the controversial Kildare IFC preliminary round game between Nurney and Staffan.

Confusion reigned at the end of last Friday evening’s game when referee Alan Archbold had Straffan winning by a point, 0-14 to 1-10, despite almost everyone else in Kilcullen having it as a draw, 0-13 to 1-10.

Nurney appealed the result to the Kildare CCC on Monday evening and were granted a replay. Their successful appeal was based on verbal submissions, video evidence and the referee admitting that he made a mistake in awarding Straffan an extra point in the closing stages.

The replay has been fixed for Hawkfield next Tuesday at 8pm, with extra-time and penalties to take place if necessary.
