May 20, 2024

Dunderry's Donagh O Laoire

 Dunderry 2-17 Dunboyne 1-14

St Peters Dunboyne visited Dunderry a week late for the jiving competition at the annual Fair, but nevertheless they brought some fine moves and got off on the right foot with a free to open proceedings on a sunny Saturday afternoon in the village. The men with 'Dunderry Fair' on their back replied with a Conor Leavy free before Dunboyne struck from play.

Another Leavy free was cancelled out from play before Leavy (from a free) and his younger brother Mark with a goal from play left it double scores at 1-3 to 0-3.

Dunboyne replied from play before the sides traded frees.

Adam Kelly reached highest from the puck out and set up Conor Leavy for a well taken point from play.  Frees were traded once more then Kelly caught again and slotted over himself this time. St Peters finished off the half with 4 from play to end the half with 0-10 while Leavy punished once more from placed ball to end the half on 1-8, a point up.

The second half started with a free for Dunboyne, free for Dunderry, play from Conor Leavy, play from Dunboyne and another Leavy free leaving it all square. Daire O Driscoll left the hapless Dunboyne custodian with no chance followed by a beauty of a point over the shoulder from Stephen Coogan. Dunboyne responded from play but were yet again punished by Leavy. Coogan gathered from Leavy and put 5 between the teams. The puck out from Dunboyne's second last free was gathered by Rattigan who picked out Kelly who selflessly set up substitute Donagh Ó Laoire to maintain a 5 point lead with time running out. Dunderrys management teams decision to ignore the age old rule of taking off the corner forwards paid off as the younger Leavy - Mark picked up a nice position to slot over. Conor Leavy finished his evening with 11points ( 2 from play) and fittingly gathered Caseys last puck out to set up Kelly to eave it Dunderry 2 -17 Dunboyne 1-14
