Dunshaughlin & Royals Gaels held a Festival of Football in memory of past players Denis Kealy and Maria Kealy-Johnson.

On their social media outlets the club summed up an outstanding day.

What a day we had…

Yesterday, our club came together in spectacular fashion to honour the memory of our dear past members, Denis Kealy and Maria Kealy-Johnson.

The day kicked off with a juvenile parade, and even the bit of mist couldn’t dampen spirits. We were delighted to welcome teams from inside the county and out, to participate in an underage blitz. What a joy to watch such skilled, happy little stars of the future playing together, making lasting memories. No doubt that the future of our club and our sport is in great hands.

In the afternoon we saw the true magnitude of the support and love for Denis and Maria, with close on 100 former teammates from across Dunshaughlin, Royal Gaels and Meath, dust off their boots and take to the pitch in two challenge matches. A lot of laughs, a few tears, and some torn muscles later, we can reflect on a day to remember for everyone involved.

Throughout the day we had face-painting, tea and coffee to beat the band, more ham sandwiches, cakes and buns than anyone has ever seen, and an amazing BBQ in the afternoon to top things off.

The power of sport, the power of community. Thanks to visiting clubs and players, volunteers and supporters for all the well wishes and generous donations. Dunshaughlin you are amazing. Denis and Maria, we love you and we miss you.
