Leinster U20 FC final: Royals romp to first title in 23 years

Meath 3-13 Louth 0-12

A strong second half display saw Meath claim their first Leinster Under 20 Football Championship title since 2001.

Meath got a great start with points from Jamie Murphy and Liam Kelly. Fergal Reel’s men hit back to lead by two on the 13th minute with four unanswered points from Kieran McArdle (2), James Maguire, and Pearse Grimes Murphy. 

It was then Meath’s turn to dominate. Fine scores from Hughie Corcoran, Jack Kinlough, Rian Stafford and Murphy again put Cathal O’Bric’s charges two up after 21minutes before Eamon Armstrong was set up by Conor Duke for a goal 2 minutes later. 

Louth didn’t panic and a brace from Maguire left three points in it at the break, Meath 1-6 Louth 0-6.

Grimes Murphy narrowed the gap with the first score of the second half but on the fourth minute they were rocked by Meath’s second goal, Armstrong turning provider for the impressive Jamie Murphy. Louth got the next two scores but from there on Meath dominated.

Murphy (3), Liam Kelly and Corcoran opened up a seven point gap. The outstanding Armstrong added a brace before Charlie O’Connor set up substitute Tadgh Martyn for Meath’s third goal as Meath claimed their first Provincial title since 2001.
