Div 1FL: Bracks unbeaten run comes to an end

April 28, 2024

Ballinabrackey's David Carroll

Na Fianna 1-12 Ballinabrackey 2-8

Saturday afternoon saw Ballinabrackey take to the road for Round 5 in The Adult Football League Division One, it was time for the local derby as they faced neighbours Na Fianna.

It was Ballinabrackey who was out of the traps firing first. A pointed free from Damien Carroll followed up by a goal from Mark Coffey before Na Fianna got their first point on the board 5 minutes into the game. Na Fianna's second came soon after from a free but Dean McNamee popped it over the black spot to keep the Bracks ticking along. Na Fianna found it hard as they went 10 minutes without a score, would their wides come back to bite them? Their next score was a pointed free followed up by one from play. That seemed to get a flow into the game with both teams now answering each other's scores. Danny Quinn got the next two for Ballinabrackey, one a placed ball while the other from play. Na Fianna got the last 2 before the break meaning the Bracks led by 1 heading for the dressing rooms at half time.

Na Fianna came out in the second half playing like their lives depended on it. They scored a goal and 3 points without replay, before Gavin Quinn got Ballinabrackey's first score 10 minutes into the half. That seemed to re-awaken the Bracks as David Carroll found the back of the net and Shay Curry followed up with a pointed free having come off the bench. Ballinabrackey had to play the remainder of the game with 14 as Damian Carroll saw the sideline early receiving a second yellow for scuffling. Thankfully this didn't seem to hinder Ballinabrackey too much as they kept tight to Na Fianna. A point or two down in the closing stages the Bracks could have sealed it with a goal opportunity had the sun not affected the viewing of the high ball dropping from the sky. As the final whistle blew after 6 minutes of extra time Ballinabrackey just fell short bringing their unbeaten run for the season to an end.

A week break no before they welcome St. Peter's Dunboyne to The Boyne Park on May 11th.
