Galbally Pearses are Ulster club intermediate football champions after defeating Corduff Gaels on a convincing 1-9 to 0-5 scoreline at the Athletic Grounds last night (Wednesday).
After being postponed three times, the provincial decider finally went ahead at the Armagh venue and saw the Tyrone champions reign supreme over their Monaghan counterparts.
Barry Carberry’s on 38 minutes put Pearses on their path to victory while Daniel Kerr and Conor Donaghy also combined for 0-6 over the hour.
It was Donaghy’s free that saw the would-be winners take in a slender 0-5 to 0-4 lead at the half and they wouldn’t be caught once Carberry hit the back of the Corduff net, finishing off a superb move which midfielder Enda McGarrity had been at the heart of.
Corduff would only manage a single point after the turnaround and their frustration was evident towards the end as they lost full-forward Keith McEnaney to a straight red card with six minutes left.
After securing sweet Ulster success, Galbally now look forward to an All-Ireland semi-final showdown with Dunmore MacHales of Galway on January 7, with the other All-Ireland club IFC semi also taking place that same day between Rathmore (Kerry) and St Mogue’s Fethard (Wexford).
