Fogarty: Cats won't go outside the county

Eight-time All-Ireland winner Aidan 'Taggy' Fogarty can't see Brian Cody's replacement as Kilkenny senior hurling manager being from outside the county.
It would be fair to say that the James Stephens clubman's successor will have a tough act to follow - during his stint in charge of the Cats from 1999 to 2022 - Cody led the county to 11 All-Ireland SHC titles as well as 18 Leinster senior championships and 10 National League crowns.
Henry Shefflin is the name on everyone's lips but Fogarty suggests the vacancy may come too soon for his former Kilkenny teammate having just completed the first year of a three-year term at the Galway helm.
"First of all, Kilkenny won't go outside the county. They’ll pick someone inside the county," Fogarty said when speaking on RTÉ Radio 1.
"There’s plenty of players that have won enough, that know enough about the hurling game to go in as manager.
"In terms of Henry Shefflin, I’d love to see him train Kilkenny. He’s only given one year in Galway, would he leave so soon?
"I suppose we saw [Liam] Cahill going to Tipperary with [Colm] Bonnar only getting a year. It totally depends."
