Limerick great lifts Daly Cup 12 years apart
Limerick's Graeme Mulcahy celebrates with Thomas Quaid at Croke Park

It was just like 2014 all over again at the TUS Gaelic Grounds last Sunday when Graeme Mulcahy captained Kilmallock to Limerick SHC glory.

The long-serving forward, who retired from inter-county duty two years ago, scored a fortuitous injury-time winning goal as the Balbec dethroned Na Piarsaigh with a dramatic 3-19 to 1-22 victory. While it was Mulcahy’s fifth Limerick SHC medal - his first coming back in 2010 - it was the first time fellow attacker and county star Shane O’Brien tasted John Daly Cup success.

“It’s been five years since we were in a final, to get back here was an aim of ours - to win it was a bonus,” the winning skipper told the Limerick Leader.

“We got relegated in the league this year, so to win a county is unreal for us. Na Piarsaigh  put us to the pin of our collar, they are a fabulous team, have been good representatives for Limerick in the last decade and we’ll go on now and try to do the same.”
