Westmeath LGFA has announced plans to develop a new training centre in Rochfortbridge.

An agreement to lease Fr Delaney Memorial Park from St Mary’s GAA has paved the way for Westmeath LGFA to transform it into a state-of-the-art training facility for all county and development squads. The proposal was put to a county board meeting on Monday evening and was met with widespread support.

Westmeath LGFA is also supporting Westmeath GAA’s plans to develop a Centre of Excellence on a 48-acre site on the outskirts of Mullingar.

Welcoming the news, Westmeath LGFA chairperson and former national president Geraldine Giles said: “The proposal by Westmeath LGFA for a long-term lease and potential development of Fr Delaney Memorial Park is a very progressive and exciting development for us. This initiative is borne out of a vision and desire to meet the growing needs of our county teams.

"It has been an aspiration of ours for some time and we express our thanks to St Mary's GAA executive committee that have worked together and helped us to realise a revolutionary concept that will benefit many."
