Joe Canning has called for the Leinster SHC final to be taken out of Croke Park.
As Canning’s beloved Galway prepare to face Kilkenny in Sunday week’s provincial decider at GAA HQ, he has expressed the view that it would be more suited to a smaller stadium where a better atmosphere would be guaranteed.
Speaking during RTÉ’s coverage of Galway’s 0-29 to 3-15 victory over Dublin at Parnell Park last Sunday, the 2017 Hurler of the Year declared: “I'd love to see it out of Croke Park, being honest about it.
“I think the whole atmosphere is too big for the crowd that gets to a Leinster final. (It should be) Tullamore, Portlaoise, or somewhere like that. You'd get a full house in Tullamore or Portlaoise.
"It would add to the whole thing. At a smaller ground you'll get a better atmosphere - and it's not going all the way up to Dublin.
"But having said that, it's great to get a day out in Croke Park."
