Despite Carrickedmond’s successful appeal to the Leinster Council’s Hearings Committee over the awarding of the win to Mullinalaghta following their controversial clash a fortnight ago, the Longford SFC quarter-finals went ahead as planned at the weekend.

Following victories for holders Killoe and surprise packets Colmcille on Saturday, Abbeylara and Mullinalaghta joined them in the semi-finals yesterday. Frankie Dolan’s Abbeylara withstood a late comeback from Rathcline to prevail by 0-10 to 1-5, while former Leinster kingpins Mullinalaghta needed late points from James McGinvey and Jayson Matthews to edge past St Mary’s, Granard 1-15 to 1-14 after former Cavan star Cian Mackey had netted earlier in the second half.

The semi-final pairings are Killoe Emmet Og v Abbeylara and Colmcille v Mullinalaghta with both ties to be played on the weekend after next.
