Donoghue for Galway is a 'done deal'

Cyril Farrell is in no doubt about who the next Galway hurling manager will be.

Micheál Donoghue stepped down as Dublin manager after two years earlier this month and is poised to make a return to the Galway hotseat, according to the man who guided the Tribesmen to three All-Ireland SHC titles in 1980, ’87 and ’88.

“I think it is a done deal. There doesn’t seem to be anyone else applying for it, there is no one putting up their hand,” Farrell told the Maroon & White podcast.

“Micheál had a year left on his contract with Franny (Forde) and Noel Larkin in Dublin. They’ve now opted out for the last year.

“They did a good job up there. Dublin were happy with them and I know they tried their best to hold onto them but he has made his break. I would say it's all roads lead to Galway. It is his if he wants it.”

Galway have been without a manager since Henry Shefflin called time on his three-year reign in early July following a desperately disappointing championship campaign which, ironically, was ended by Donoghue's former Dublin charges.
