Galway emulate Cork's unwanted All-Ireland final record

It’s a tough time to be a Galway supporter after seeing their men’s football, ladies football and camogie teams lose All-Ireland finals on consecutive Sundays at Croke Park.
The Westerners’ misery at losing last month’s Sam Maguire Cup decider to Armagh was compounded by further defeats in the All-Ireland ladies football and camogie finals to Kerry and Cork respectively over the past two weekends. But Cork supporters of a certain vintage know exactly how Galway feel as the Rebels also had the unwanted distinction of losing three All-Ireland finals in the same year.
In 1956 – 68 years ago – Cork lost the All-Ireland football final to Galway, the hurling final to Wexford and the camogie decider to Antrim. The run of defeats came in the middle of a polio outbreak on Leeside which wouldn’t have helped the Cork cause.
By the way, the first All-Ireland ladies football final didn’t take place until 18 years later (1974) when Tipperary defeated Offaly by a point.
