Philly Ryan will be the next Tipperary senior football manager.

The Clonmel Commercials clubman has been recommended by the Tipperary football committee to replace Paul Kelly. Dubliner Kelly stepped down following Tipp’s Tailteann Cup exit in early June after just one season in the role.

Ryan kept goal between 1991 and 2003 for Tipp, during which he played in Munster finals in 1994, ’95 and 2002. Since then, he managed the county minors and served as a selector with the U21s. He also managed Commercials to a county SFC title in 2012.

Meanwhile, Brendan Cummins will continue as Tipperary U20 hurling manager for another two years after leading them to this year’s All-Ireland final, while Liam Cahill is expected to see out the final year of his three-year term as senior hurling manager, despite a disappointing 2024 campaign.
