Tributes have been flowing since the news of two-time All-Ireland winning manager John O’Mahony’s passing broke this morning.
The Mayo native died at the age of 71 after a long battle with illness and among those to lead the tributes to him thus far have been Taoiseach Simon Harris, Tánaiste Micheál Martin and the Gaelic Players Association.
It is with great sadness that I have heard of the passing of our good friend and colleague, John O’Mahony. A sporting hero. A champion. A gentleman. Thinking of his wife Geraldine, his 5 daughters, his grandchildren & extended family. May he rest in peace pic.twitter.com/5v9Bau31dp

An outstanding sportsman & politician, but above all a thorough gentleman.
In Dáil Éireann, he was always respectful, courteous & diligent.
Deepest sympathies to his wife Geraldine, & the O’Mahony & Towey families.
A snapshot of these warriors who gave their all over a number of seasons, culminating in our greatest sporting day in living memory in 1994, led by the inimitable John O'Mahony. We are deeply saddened to learn this morning of his passing. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis. pic.twitter.com/0z79YwxlHN

John O'Mahony changed the face of Connacht football. guiding Mayo to an All-Ireland final in 1989, managing Galway to All-Ireland wins in 1998 & 2001 and ending Leitrim's long wait for a second Connacht title in 1994. Above all he was a gentleman. May he rest in peace #gaa

John O'Mahony's influence over Gaelic Football reigned five decades on from his first steps into coaching.
John Maher did a superb job on Brian Fenton last week, only made his SFC debut for Galway in 2023, may never have come about w/o John O'Mahony https://t.co/oeiRU6M6fx
RIP John O'Mahony
