Former Tipperary manager Liam Sheedy reckons referee Thomas Walsh made a “harsh” decision in taking away Conor Cooney’s free in the late stages of Galway’s Leinster SHC clash with Wexford on Saturday.

Cooney was adjudged to have taken too long over the ball and Lee Chin nailed the final two points as Wexford snatched a 1-19 apiece draw on home turf.

Speaking on RTÉ's Sunday Game, Sheedy agreed with Galway boss Henry Shefflin that Walsh’ decision had been harsh.

"It was a big talking point and what Thomas Walsh did was very unusual to see," he stated.

"Everyone agrees that Galway should have won the game and they left Wexford in it.

"If I was standing in Henry Shefflin's shoes I would be cross because it's not something we generally see. A big moment in the match. I think it was crowd influenced.

"I think Thomas Walsh got it wrong.

"Having said that Wexford took full advantage of it and managed to squeeze a point that they'll be delighted they got."
