Tommy Byrne, who passed away on September 6th, 2016 at the age of 90, was synonymous with the local St Brides GAA club. Tommy enjoyed a very successful playing career with the club and starred on the 1949 JFC-winning side. St Brides were also runners-up in the Macardle Cup that year. He also togged out against Newtown Blues and Hunterstown Rovers respectively in the 1958 and '59 junior finals and he continued to support the club enthusiastically after hanging up his boots. Among the gifts offered by Tommy's grandchildren at his funeral mass was a St Brides jersey.
