Kelly, Francis

Formerly of Legavoureen Park, Drogheda, Francis Kelly passed away in New Zealand late in 2015. He was a member of the Naomh Mhuire GFC side that defeated Oliver Plunketts in the 1953 Louth SFC final. Nicknamed 'Wasp', he was the second-youngest player on that team and scored a vital goal in the semi-final win over St Marys. Togging out alongside his brothers, Francis represented the Mhuires from 1947 until 1955 and was a selector with the MFC-winning team in '55. He also collected Macardle Cup and junior championship medals as a player.
