Clare are heading up to the topflight of the Allianz Hurling League as Division 1B champions after seeing off Dublin by 2-26 to 3-20 at the TUS Gaelic Grounds this afternoon.

Shane O’Donnell and Shane Meehan netted the goals for Brian Lohan’s side in the first-half as they were made to hang on late on against their capital counterparts’ late surge.

John Hetherton netted Dublin in front with a seventh minute penalty before O’Donnell, who made his first start of the season here, burst through the centre and finished with aplomb.

Mark Rodgers added two points (one free) to the Munster side’s tally and Meehan sent over another prior to the latter finding the net on the quarter hour mark.

Cian O’Sullivan struck a sorely needed goal for Dublin in response ahead of Rodgers, Meehan and Ryan Taylor raising more white flags that left it at 2-15 to 2-5 for the interval.

Niall Ó Ceallacháin’s men hit the first six scores of the restart, with O’Sullivan landing three of them ahead of Rodgers shooting three unaswered frees at the other end.

Connor Donohoe, O’Sullivan, who would tally 0-9 in the second-half, and substitute Dara Purcell kept the Leinster side in the hunt with scores before Fergal Whitley struck this decider’s fifth goal to make it 2-22 to 3-17.

Ian Galvin, Peter Duggan (free) and Diarmuid Ryan registered three Clare points to outweigh two more from O’Sullivan, with Ryan cancelling out an O’Sullivan free in injury-time to help secure the Banner men’s league title success.
