Dublin GAA has been granted planning permission to develop a new state-of-the-art training facility in Spawell.

An Coimisiún Pleanála upheld the decision of South Dublin County Council to approve the development just off the M50 near Templeogue after local residents had objected to it. Subject to compliance with a number of planning conditions, the Commission said the development would provide “a high-quality sports facility for the wider South County Dublin community.”

The project includes the development of four pitches, one of which would have a 500-capacity covered stand and a 500-capacity terrace. Indeed, one of the pitches is already under construction on a former Pitch & Putt course.

There are also plans to construct a 2,050sq m single-storey pavilion which would include 10 dressing-rooms, male and female changing rooms for match officials, a gym, physio room, first aid room, kitchen and dining area, along with a team meeting room at the 35-acre site which was purchased in 2017 for an estimated €9 million.
