Michael Duignan credited Offaly’s senior footballers for the way they “honoured” their late manager Liam Kearns at Semple Stadium yesterday.

After the Kerry native’s sudden and tragic death last Sunday, the Faithful men put a tough couple of days behind them to defeat Tipperary by 2-14 to 0-13 and keep themselves in the hunt for promotion to Division 2 of the Allianz Football League with one round to go.

A minute’s silence was observed before throw-in at the Thurles venue in memory of Liam, who was laid to rest in Clonlara, Co Clare on Thursday.

Writing on social media last night, Duignan posted the following:

“Very proud of the @Offaly_GAA senior football players, management and backroom team today. They have been through a lot all week but they have carried themselves with great dignity at all times. Liam would have been over the moon with the way the lads have honoured him,” wrote the Offaly GAA chairperson.
