Reigning Poc Fada champion Colin Ryan has been recalled to the Limerick senior hurling panel after a six-year absence.
An All-Ireland winner in 2018, the Pallasgreen clubman last played for the Treaty County as a forward in 2019, but is expected to feature as a goalkeeper in 2026 after lining out between the posts in last Saturday evening’s ‘Champions Under Lights’ match against Tipperary at Fethard in aid of the Dillon Quirke Foundation.
Ryan, who played at centre back for his club in this year’s Limerick IHC, is set to compete with Fionn O’Brien and incumbent Nickie Quaid for the No. 1 jersey next season. It comes after erstwhile forward Shane Dowling and Jason Gillane left the panel in the off-season.
"He has played there before at underage. He's obviously a very skilful hurler. He had a very positive evening's work," Limerick manager John Kiely said of Ryan after his experimental side was edged out by the All-Ireland champions on a 0-23 to 1-21 scoreline.
“He has a lot to do, he knows that himself. It's still very early doors. But after a month's work, a performance like that, he'll be very happy."
