Fermanagh ensured themselves promotion back to Division 2 of the Allianz Football League with a 1-14 to 2-9 win over Cavan at Kingspan Breffni this afternoon.

The result means the two neighbouring counties are now set to meet in next Saturday’s Division 3 final at Croke Park.

With Fermanagh having been wasteful in the first-half, goals from Jonathan McCabe and Killian Clarke were what saw the already promoted hosts lead by 2-3 to 0-6 at the halfway stage.

Sean Quigley’s point on 55 minutes would see the margin at two ahead of Ultan Kelm firing the Ernesiders in front with a rocket shot past Ray Galligan in the Cavan goal.

Points from Oisin Brady and sub Ryan O’Neill got Mickey Graham’s men back in front but, needing a win to ensure they went up, the visitors got crucial points from Ryan Jones, Ryan Lyons (2) and Kelm to see out the victory.

In Tullamore, Down produced the goods in the second-half to bring the curtain down on Offaly’s promotion hopes with an emphatic 1-18 to 0-9 victory.

Having led by three at the halfway stage, the Mourne men outscored the hosts by 1-9 to 0-3 after the turnaround to pick up their fifth win of the campaign, leaving them with a third placed finish in the table.

The scoreboard read 0-10 to 0-7 in the Ulster side’s favour when Liam Kerr smashed in the game’s only goal in 44 minutes and they’d follow it up with six unanswered points to cement the win.

In Mullingar, Westmeath signed off on their campaign with a 1-13 to 0-10 win against already relegated Tipperary, while the other dead rubber contest in the division saw also relegated Longford claim their first victory on a 3-17 to 3-12 scoreline at home to Antrim.
