Replying To thegadfly:  "Now that's a strange topic. Thankfully as a nation we're finally freeing ourselves from the shackles of the catholic church."
Think the shackles of the Catholic Church have been well left behind... Now we've got the Woke, perpetually offended and outraged by everything Shackles to deal with.

Replying To MesAmis:  "Yeah coz that's the same thing isn't it. When the 'Woke and perpetually offended' start raping children and burying babies in septic tanks come back to us with your talk of shackles."
I don't for a minute defend the Church and what occurred but I worked for over 10 years as a therapist with children who suffered abuse . I have a fair idea of what I'm talking about when I say that all of it came into their lives through family members or friends of the family..nothing to do with Catholicism. In fact I remember well when the head of CARI made a point of saying that the whole blaming the Catholic Church for everything wrong in Ireland was ridiculous and completely missed the point that most historical abuse happened in the home. So yeah the Woke and offended are just as capable of crime against kids as anyone in society.. The shackles I was talking about means you can't actually point out the fact or anything close to criticism of a fairly insane ideology. Just look at JK Rowlings experience.. She's a good example of what happens when the self righteousness kicks off.

Mayo V Tyrone All-Ireland Football Final - 9 Like(s)
As a Limerick hurling supporter I know exactly what it's like to suffer for years on end hoping to God that someday, by some miracle we'd get over the line and I'd actually see us win an all Ireland.. Thankfully that finally happened only a few years ago and its been a fantastic few years since.. I suppose it means I'll probably be shouting for Mayo in the final... No matter how long and miserable our drought to win an all ireland was over the years it was always a consolation to say 'feck it.. At least we're not Mayo' I've been to a few Mayo matches over the years and loved the mad optimism of their fans.. I really hope they get to experience the joy we felt in 2018 when we fell over the line. The pity of it is I'd love to see Tyrone win it also.. I have great time for Tyrone football and was a huge admirer of Mickey Harte, A man of incredible dignity and courage.. Tyrone played a fierce and aggressive style of football in the 00's. I really enjoyed watching them put it up to Kerry...their complete lack of respect for the Footballing aristocracy. A formidable team with a great legacy.... I hope both do themselves justice and please God whoever wins, will do it in a memorable game that has no talking points other than how fine both teams were.

Replying To MesAmis:  "He was drawing a false equivalent. There is no comparison to be drawn between the Church and the "woke, permanently offended". In terms of intolerance and vindictiveness the Church leaves all in the hapenny place. It's like making a comparison between Mount Everest and the Sugarloaf."
You disagree with me, that's fine but I think you're in complete denial about the reality of Irish society now. In my experience, the intolerance in this country is breathtaking.. Its a lot more subtle than the Catholic Church in its heyday but equally as vindictive..its just at the opposite end of the spectrum now. Look at the vitriol the likes of Ronan Mullen gets, In fact Ask anyone whose voiced an opinion that doesn't fit the all encompassing Liberal ideology.. There's an agenda at work, that if you disagree with it you suffer. In essence one form of intolerance has replaced another..

How Many More All Irelands For This Limerick Team? - 7 Like(s)

Replying To galwayford:  "Limerick is not a natural hurling county. For a long time the GAA has played second or third fiddle in the city and county. I hope that Cork, Galway, and Tipp will catch them. Well done to Limerick. A good coaching team has made "average hurlers" into winners."
What the hell is your problem!!!!! Not a natural hurling county! We've gone unbeaten the whole year, won the league, munster and now the all Ireland final. Utter begrudgery.

Confess Your Really Unpopular View/Opinion - 7 Like(s)

Replying To Meathmaverick:  "1. Football is a better game than hurling 2. I really enjoy Ulster football, the physicality and verbals that go with it. 3. Dublin are a brilliant team but I'm not convinced the greatest ever. Leinster is embarrassingly uncompetitive and the current mayo and Kerry teams who are dublins only real competition aren't as strong as the kerry, Tyrone teams of the noughties"
Your first point about football being better than hurling?? How is that unpopular? That appears to be the general consensus right across Hoganstand. How about this for an unpopular opinion? . football can't compare in any way to hurling as it is a a rule an utterly tedious sport. A ponderous boring shite spectacle apart from when Dublin play when the speed, skill and craft of the present team make it watchable. :)

Monaghan GAA thread - 6 Like(s)
Congratulations Monaghan.. I was in Dublin yesterday so went out to Croke park. It's been Years since I went to see inter county football as I wouldn't have huge interest to be honest. All hurling where I come from. Found Kerry v Tyrone tedious enough as it was so one sided but Really enjoyed your match v Armagh. Found it enthralling even without the penalties.. As a hurling man I'm used to speed and much higher scoring ratio but once I got my head around the keepers constant wandering around the pitch and got used to the tempo of the game, as a neutral I thought It was great stuff. You've a fine team, Great support also. Best of luck in the semi final..

Replying To Doylerwex:  "Why is that happening though? There's serious unrest because legitimate concerns have been ignored for 20 years. People can't get a gp, a school place or a home and the government is completely ignoring it. What happened in Dublin was inexcusable. Opportunistic criminals jumping on a chance to cause havoc. However, we need to have a serious conversation about the social problems that created these people. I believe we should help where we can, but we cannot ignore the fact that our society is crumbling in front of our eyes. Immigrants aren't the issue. A lack of controls is part of it. But it's very easy to win disillusioned people over by offering a simple solution to their problems. What we're seeing is exactly the kind of thing that happened all across Europe in the 30s. We need to undertake massive social housing and infrastructure projects on a scale we've never seen before it's too late."
This is an intelligent post with very reasonable sentiments. Only problem is that if you had the audacity to suggest we need any sort of control, let alone immigration control to the Irish government you're immediately dismissed as "Far Right"... it's utterly insulting.. By all means support people from other countries fleeing persecution but question whether we're at breaking point and The attitude of Government in Ireland seems to be shut up and put up with it.. I have a daughter in college who told me recently she's convinced she'll have to emigrate when she's finished as she doesn't see a future for herself here.. The cost of living,, of ever having her own home is beyond her. its just heartbreaking to consider.. So I'm angry, disillusioned with the state of things and tired of elected representatives treating any sort of concerns with contempt...

Can Anyone Name A More Forgone Conclusion Of A Competition Than The Leinster Football Championship? - 5 Like(s)

Replying To Irishcelt:  "Just interested to know can anyone name a more dominant or forgone conclusion of a competition than the Leinster football championship where the same team as won it for the past 10 years or 15 out of 16 times. It can be a GAA club championship or from any other sport in the world. I've been trying to rack my brain and can't think of anything in the present day that's like the farce that is the Leinster championship."
The Munster football championship...

Move To National Forum Only Model - 5 Like(s)

Replying To Administrator:  "From this morning the individual forums in all bar two counties have been retired. The majority of discussion will be in one place, through the national forum where any topics can be discussed. There has been a growing trend towards this in recent years and with all messages individually moderated, it allows us to focus our resources more efficiently. It's a big change, but where would the GAA world be without amalgamations?"
I can see why you removed the red thumbs a while ago..

Richie mac's reputation as a Limerick hurling great is fairly secure. The ramblings of an anonymous poster with an agenda against him won't change that.

All Ireland Final - Who You Shouting For? - 5 Like(s)

Replying To ConnollyDub:  "One for the neutrals. I imagine most people are up for Kerry! But is there anyone shouting for Dublin? So the question I ask is: Who you shouting for this Sunday? And why?"
Dublin. As a rule wouldn't be a huge fan of gaelic football, hurling #1 by a long shot but I love the way Dublin play. That's mainly why I hope they win,the enjoyment I got from watching the brilliant football they've produced over the last decade. In an era where football looked like a cross between rugby league and basketball Dublin won me over. Hope they do the 5 in a row.

Can Success Be Bought With Money? - 5 Like(s)
We have one of the wealthiest men in Ireland as our main sponsor. We've won 2 all Irelands since 1940. So no, it can't. It helps but hard work, talent and a bit of luck are a lot more important.
