Clare cruised to their third straight win in Division 1B of the Allianz Hurling League by seeing off Down on an emphatic 3-35 to 0-15 scoreline in Ennis this afternoon.
Brian Lohan’s men were in ruthless form as Mark Rodgers, David Fitzgerald and Peter Duggan netted their goals in a devastating eight-minute spell in the second-half.
The home side had built up a 0-22 to 0-7 lead by the end of the first-half and, while the points of Paul Sheehan and Cathal Colman looked to decrease the Mourne men’s deficit, Rodgers’s 54th minute goal knocked the stuffing out of the Ulster side and the victors would go to add another 2-8 to their tally from there to join Wexford at the top of the division.
In Newbridge, Brian Dowling's Kildare lifted themselves from the foot of the Division 1B table by recording an impressive 3-21 to 0-20 win against Antrim.
The points of Cathal Dowling, Jack Sheridan and Daire Guerin helped the Lilywhites to lead by 0-14 to 0-11 at the halfway stage and they’d add a James Dolan goal to their tally five minutes into the restart.
Seaan Elliott and Ryan McCambridge got scores back for Davy Fitzgerald’s side, but the points were sealed for the hosts once Muiris Curtin fired in back-to-back goals for them in the 47th and 48th minutes.
