The funeral took place yesterday of a young hurler from Co. Laois.

Twenty-three-year-old Rory Deegan from Cullohill died last Sunday week after he was found unresponsive in a swimming pool in Greece. A student at the Technological University of the Shannon in Limerick, Rory had travelled to the island of Zakynthos with four other students for work for the summer. He is survived by his parents Joe and Diane, and his brothers and sisters.

Paying tribute to Rory, The Harps GAA said he “was a shining light with an infectious smile and character. In his short life, he had many underage hurling successes and in his return to play last year, his contribution was instrumental in our Junior County final win in O’Moore Park.”
